ALUVA: It was an unforgettable moment for both Fr Varghese Kallapara and Metropolitan-designate Dr Jomy Joseph when the latter visited the house of Fr Kallapara at Nedumbassery, seeking blessings from his mentor.Metropolitan-designate Dr Jomy recalled the incident when he was taken to the Altar of St George Jacobite Church at Karayamparambu by Kallapara to assist the then Vicar Fr Kallapara about 25 years ago. Dr Jomy touched the feet of Kallapara acknowledging the blessings and guidance given by the renowned teacher. Touched by the obedience and respect, Fr Kallapara blessed Metropolitan Dr Jomy offering special prayers for his loving disciple. It was a unique coincidence that Kallapara was the Vicar of Thrikkunnath St Mary’s Jacobite Church when the parents of Dr Jomy shifted to Aluva from Karayamparambu and joined as the parishioners of Thrikkunnath Church. Jomy Joseph joined the seminary in Mulanthuruthy and completed his higher studies abroad and secured PhD. Dr Jomy was appointed the vicar in Vazhakulam Marygiri Church when Fr Kallapara retired from the post. Holy Patriarch Zaka I decided to consecrate four priests of Jacobite Church as Metropolitans including Dr Jomy Joseph, Fr Thomas Abraham Neryanthara (Velloor), Fr Scaria Kochillam (Kurichi) and Fr Gabriel Ramban (Azhakam, Angamaly). They would be consecrated as metropolitans of Jacobite Church by Catholicos Thomas I in a function at Purhencruz on January 2. Jacobite Employees Forum offered felicitations to the newly elected metropolitans. Fr Varghese Kallapara, C Y Varghese and Kunjachan Chembola spoke on the occasion.
