BANGALORE: Five teachers from Karnataka bagged the Innovative Teachers Leadership Award on Friday for adopting innovative methods in teaching.The teachers were felicitated by Microsoft India under Project Shiksha, a joint initiative with Department of Public Instruction.The awardees are Jayashree Hegde from Government PU College, Kadugodi, Geetha Koustubha from Government Composite PU College, Tekal, Kolar, Manjula D of Government HS, Dattaragaon, Gulbarga, Bandenawaz from Government HS, Ratkal, Gulbarga and Vasu S of Government HS, Jeevan Bima Nagar.As part of this project, teachers from government schools and colleges undergo computer training for 12 days in order to promote use of computers in classroom teaching.Jayashree Hegde, who knew nothing about computers prior to her training, now uses Microsoft Office in teaching.“I never knew how a computer is even turned on. But now, I conduct classes with powerpoint presentations for ethnosphere,” said Hegde.Bandenawaz has been using computers to teach concepts of Physics and Mathematics to his students.“I used to find it hard to teach concepts like nuclear fission and fusion on the blackboard. I can now use basic animation to explain these concepts to students,” he said.
