New Delhi: In the midnight swoop by Delhi police at Ramlila Maidan on Saturday, a woman supporter of yoga guru Baba Ramdev, Rajbala Malik was critically injured in the police crackdown and doctors say she may be paralysed for life.
Rajbala Malik had always wanted to make a difference and bring about change. But what happened at Ramlila Maidan on Saturday night changed her identity forever. From now on she will be known as the unfortunate victim of the infamous midnight swoop.
Her daughter-in-law Rakesh Malik said that Rajbala told her that she was hit by lathis. She also said that Rajbala's condition is not good as she cannot move properly.
Rajbala and her family have been living in Gurgaon for the last three decades. After she started watching Baba Ramdev's yoga sessions on TV, her family says, Rajbala became a devout follower and eventually a trained yoga teacher. She was so much in awe of the baba that she didn't leave the camp with her family at night and chose instead to stay on.
Over 60 people including police personnel were injured at the Ramlila Maidan. Most of them have now been discharged. But the show carries on. While the Baba continues his fast now from Haridwar, it's only for some of his supporters that time has stood still.
Rajbala told her family that this was the first time she felt like she was a part of some sort of change. She even went on a fast to support Baba Ramdev. But little did her family know that the support would leave her battling for life in a hospital bed.
