In Karnataka Police, it's not a dog's Life in the Scorching Heat

Bengaluru: The unbearable heat has come as a blessing in disguise for the sniffer dogs in Karnataka. They are getting VIP treatment by the police department.

To keep the dogs happy and comfortable during the peak summer, the police force has made special arrangements in many districts. In a hot place like Bellary, the department has installed ACs/air coolers in the rooms where dogs are kept.

They are being fed high nutritional foods, glucose, Vitamin D etc in addition to their regular diet.

They are also given tender coconut thrice a day to keep their body cool. Cold water has also been kept in the dog rooms and they are given more liquid food. Their outdoor activities have been restricted to only early morning and evening to avoid the hottest part of the day.

Police dog experts say unprecedented heat is affecting the efficiency of sniffer dogs. Dogs of certain breed get extremely uncomfortable above 35 degree Celsius. If they are not given proper care, heat could be fatal for them, experts add.

A day in the life of police dogs can be envy of ordinary people who bear the heat with no help from anywhere.
