Impact of climate change felt around the world

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The hazardous impact of environmental pollution and the consequent climate change are being felt uniformly all over the world, Shashi Tharoor MP said inaugurating the state-level poster, project and quiz competition conducted for students of educational institutions at a  function held at K V Pattom on Wednesday.He said that the pollution from industrialised nations as well as developing countries may considerably contribute to future climate changes.India, with 17 per cent of world’s population, contributes to a mere 4 per cent of the global green house gas emissions. The whole world becomes a victim of the disastrous consequence of industrialisation and green house emissions from every part of the world. Though a lot of high-level research on climate change and its impact are being done, we can save earth and its climate only if all of us join hands to face the challenges, starting at home, Tharoor said. The competition was held in connection with the National Meet on ‘Climate Change and the Future’ to be organised in the city on  August 6, 2011 by Divecha Centre for Climate Change, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and EduWorld Foundation Thiruvananthapuram. In an interactive session, Tharoor responded to the various questions raised by the students.V S Jayakumar, Chairman EduWorld, introduced the programme and Karunakaran, Project Director, Centre for Environment and Development (CED), offered felicitations. M K Mishra, Vice-Principal, K V Pattom, presided over the meeting and Thomas, PGT, English, welcomed the gathering. Students can access ‘poster and project idea competition’ online at .The quiz competitions to be conducted by CED at Kerala Environment Congress will be for institutions at primary, secondary and college levels, while the poster and project idea contest will be for individual students. The toppers in the competition will be awarded prizes on August 6.
