New Delhi: After days of suffering and pain, Dharmender — who had been lying unattended in the lawns of Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital due to the impasse between the striking doctors and the Government — got his gangrenous leg successfully amputated by doctors at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
On May 26, CNN-IBN showed the plight of Dharmendra and soon after his case was taken up by two striking doctors and a citizen came forward to help him.
As Dharmendra underwent surgery on Friday, it was the first time in several days that his distraught mother, Chinta Devi, looked composed.
She was happy that her son, who had been suffering due to his gangrenous leg for the past two weeks, was finally operated upon.
"Doctors are saying he will get an artificial limb and will be able to walk," says the 20-year-old's mother.
The possibility of a normal life for her son not only brings tears to Chintadevi's eyes, but also the relief that her month long ordeal is over.
