When you are made to watch movies like 3 Idiots and Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, you wonder if it's really worth making that trip to Goa for the festival. Even world cinema-wise, IFFI seems to be seriously lagging behind in the general scenario.
This sentiment was echoed by film-maker Anurag Kashyap. Kashyap, whose films have made several festival rounds around the world, told IBNLive.com, "I am disappointed with the choice. The festival directors need to be more aware of what really is happening worldwide. We have raised this point, so hopefully next year it will be a better scene."
Derek Malcolm, a veteran film critic from London Evening Standard, agrees. Malcolm who has been in the profession for more than 40 years, said "The selection of world cinema is dreadful. I am so disappointed. I seriously think the festival director should be someone who knows what is happening and who has enough contacts to rope in the right people and the right films."
