Raipur: A team of senior government officials was stunned to discover two human skulls inside the cupboard of a clerk during a search of his office to probe complaints of financial irregularities, police said on Tuesday.
The incident has created a sensation in Korba district's Pali area, some 160 km north of capital Raipur. The raid took place on Sunday.
A team of officials led by Korba district joint collector M R Sahu searched the office of Kishor Singh Thakur, a clerk posted at the Janpad Panchayat at Pali town.
"The probe team reached the Pali office of the clerk to get his statement on the complaints of financial irregularities, but the clerk did not turn up despite being informed earlier. Finally, the team broke open his cupboard and was stunned to recover the two skulls," Ashok Agrawal, district collector, told IANS by phone.
He said Thakur was absconding. Officials in Korba district say he was a believer in witchcraft and would regularly pray to the skulls during office hours.
