HC allows Vikas Yadav to attend sister's wedding
Vikas, son of a controversial politician is accused of murdering Nitish Katara.

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Friday refused to grant interim bail to Vikas Yadav, who is undergoing life imprisonment in the Nitish Katara murder case, but allowed him to attend his sister's wedding under judicial custody.

A bench comprising Justices Anil Kumar and Vipin Sanghi allowed Vikas, son of controversial Uttar Pradesh politician D P Yadav, to participate in his sister's wedding ceremony on November 1 from 1700 hrs IST till his sister left for her husband's house next morning.

The court directed the police officers to accompany him in plainclothes during the function.

Vikas had sought three months interim bail to attend the function and perform the rituals as the bride's elder brother during the ceremony.

On May 28 last year, Vikas and his cousin Vishal were convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for killing Nitish Katara, the son of an IAS officer, in 2002 as they opposed Katara's intimacy with Bharati.

Their appeal against the trial court verdict is pending before the High Court.

Vikas has also been convicted in ramp model Jessica Lal’s murder and sentenced to four years imprisonment by the Delhi High Court for destruction of evidence.

Vikas and his cousin Vishal killed Katara on the intervening night of February 17-18, 2002, after kidnapping him from a marriage party in Ghaziabad.
