THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The UDF Government will follow the agreement on Smart City Project reached during the previous LDF Government’s term in letter and spirit, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy told the Assembly on Tuesday. The work on the project will begin on October 6. The State Government was committed to implementing the project. Since the entire 246 acres under the project have been accorded SEZ status, there is no question of allowing sale of any portion of it, he replied to a question. Industries Minister P K Kunhalikutty said that Kerala had missed the IT bus during the past five years. Bangalore, Chennai and Noida had cornered the plum investments. ‘’Now we are establishing (Smart City) when there is a recession. It is a fact that our youth lost five years of opportunity,’’ he said.US curbs on outsourcing need not affect the prospects of Smart City, he said. CPM’s A K Balan demanded that the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) should be adequately compensated for the 100 acres it contributed to the Smart City project.
