HYDERABAD: City-based artist Hari Srivinivas brings to the city his charity art show ‘Vermillionreds’, in an effort to raise funds for the Basavatarakam Indo-American Cancer Hospital. The collection, which comprises 32 paintings, brings out the artist’s interpretation of life he sees around him. Perhaps in a way cherishing life’s vitality, Srinivas’ paintings tell a myriad stories, influenced by almost everything. From stills of flyovers in the city to buildings, roads, animals, nature’s beauty and abstract themes like love and affection towards cancer patients, the canvases are a still-to-still portrayal of what the artist experiences everyday.A graduate of JNTU institute of Fine Arts, Srinivas has been spreading colour through his paintings for over two decades. This time around he has focused his efforts on contributing to the cancer hospital which was set up as a tribute to its namesake, the wife of former chief minister, N T Rama Rao, who died of the disease herself.The exhibition is called Vermillionreds as each picture is painted with a red hue - the colour of sindoor which considered auspicious. Done in mixed media, including oil on canvas and acrylic paints, the paintings which took the artist close to six months to complete, are priced between `15,000 and `1,500,000. Of the total funds raised, around 40 per cent will be donated to the hospital. The artist has travelled the art circuit in several parts of the world like Sri Lanka, Zurich and Thailand besides major cities in the country such as Mumbai, Bengaluru, Delhi and Kolkata. Talking about his journey, he says, “an artist perceives things differently and has to have the intuition to see the extraordinary in ordinary things.” A piece of advice for budding artists, he insists that they must create paintings that are related to humanity. The paintings are on view till May 30, from 10 am onwards at Synergy at Taj Deccan.
