Godhra probe panel gets time till December 31
Over 100 accused are in jail for their involvement in burning of a train at Godhra.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday granted time till December 31 to the RK Raghavan Committee to complete the probe into the Godhra train burning incident.

A bench comprising Justices Arijit Pasayat, P Sathasivam and Aftab Alam adjourned the hearing.

Justice Pasayat lost his temper over the submission of Senior Counsel KTS Tulsi when the latter remarked that "this honourable court has suspended the Constitution with one stroke of pen and no court is prepared to hear the bail applications of the accused with they being told to go to the Supreme Court".

Justice Pasayat told Mr Tulsi not to raise his voice and made it clear that the Apex Court had not said anything on that aspect.

Over 100 accused are in jail for their involvement in burning of a train at Godhra, in which 52 kar sevaks, returning from Ayodhaya, were burnt alive in 2002 when bogie number S6 was allegedly set on fire.

The incident had led to communal riots in Gujarat.

The Raghavan committee was appointed by the Supreme Court and has already submitted its interim report to the apex court.
