BANGALORE: JD(S) floor leader in the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) council has threatened to file a case against the Mayor and Commissioner, if they did not take punitive action to clear garbage in the city. Padmanabha Reddy, who moved Rule 52 of the Karnataka Municipal Corporation Act, said that garbage was mounting across the city and little was being done to tackle it. He also sought the permission of the council to file a case against the top brass in the High Court. “We collect garbage cess but deal with solid waste management badly,” he alleged. Pointing out the flaws in the existing garbage tender policy, he said, “Many of the conditions are impossible to meet,” he said and alleged that old contractors were taking advantage of this. Adding to this, Subhash Nagar Corporator Mallesh said that the solvency for SC/ST to participate was Rs 1 crore and sought for relaxation. “Recruit 4,000 odd Pourakarmikas,” Hanumanthanagar Corporator Chandrashekhar added. He opined that once they recruit Pourakarmikas, the state of affairs in garbage would improve. BBMP Commissioner M K Shankarlinge Gowda announced that January 12, 2012 would be the last date to float garbage tenders.
