French Embassy to host dance festival

BANGALORE: Embassy of France in India along with Alliance Francaise Bangalore is hosting an Indo-French Contemporary Dance festival called 'Danse Dialogue', from November 8 to 12. Indian dance troupes such as Attakalari, Nritarutya and Natya Stem Dance Kampni, along with French troupes — Jerome Bel Company, Zahrbat Company and Beau Geste Company will be putting up shows during the five day event.Philippe Gasparini, the Director of Alliance Francaise who spoke to the media on Wednesday, said that the idea of the program is to establish communication in the countries through contemporary dance forms. “It is a dance exchange program where all kinds of dance forms are seen to be collaborated on stage.  France's contemporary dance scene is recognized for its diversity and quality. In India, while classical dances are greatly developed and strongly rooted, the contemporary dance companies are transforming the traditional codes to give birth to a new choreographic vocabulary. These dance artists will gain a new artistic perspective through this interaction,” he explained. The festival begins on November 2 and has performances planned in Delhi and Chennai. The festival in Bangalore begins on the November 8 and has 5 performances by the 6 dance troupes.  The inaugural day will see a performance called Pichet Klunchun and Myself by Jerome Bel. Vajra, Mars and Chittara and MeiDhwani are the Indian performances on the November 9, 10 and 11 respectively. 'Transports Exceptionnels by D Boivin' by the Beau Geste Company will be the last performance of the festival. The first four performances will take place at the JSS Auditorium, whereas the final performance by the Beau Geste Company will happen in the Brigade Gateway premises. Free invites can be collected at the Alliance Francaise Bangalore, Nritarutya, Attakalari and Natya Stem offices. Entry is by invitation only.
