Four construction workers were  arrested for chain-snatching and gold ornaments worth Rs 9 lakh were recovered  from them by the Suryaraopet police on Saturday.

Disclosing this to newsmen here, West Zone ACP T Hari Krishna said the Suryaraopet police, in association with the CCS police, nabbed Ganti Mahesh (21), Ganti Ramesh (27), Durmudi Eswara Rao (31) and Peram Durga Prasad (21), who are centring workers.

Mahesh is a resident of Vambay Colony, while his brother Ramesh is living at Mangalagiri in Guntur district. The duo with the help of Eswara Rao of Madhuranagar and Durga Prasad of Mutyalampadu had committed 19 chain-snatchings in the city in the last 3 months.

Presenting them before the media at the Suryaraopet police station, the ACP said the quartet used to commit chain-snatchings when they do not have work.

Mahesh and Ramesh were convicted earlier in the chain snatching cases registered by the Satyanarayanapuram police.

Suryaraopet inspector Jayaraju, SI Sagar Babu, West Zone CCS inspector Sankar Naik and CCS SI Kamalakar were the members of the police team which apprehended the chain-snatchers.
