BHUBANESWAR: The State Government has decided to construct cement concrete (CC) roads in 3,000 villages which were severely hit by floods in September.  A decision to this effect was taken at a high-level meeting presided over by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik here. The CC roads will cost the exchequer Rs. 150 crore. Out of the 8,000 villages affected in the floods, 3,000 were badly affected. Floodwater has completely damaged roads in these villages.In each of the severely-affected villages, CC road of 250 metres will be constructed at a cost of Rs. 5 lakh. Sources said roads having length of 750 km will be constructed in the State as a part of the immediate post-flood restoration programme. Construction work will have to be completed within the next 45 days.  About 300 computers have been damaged in panchayat samiti and gram panchayat offices. The State Government has provided Rs. 1 crore for purchase of new computers for these offices.  Similarly, it has been decided that 50 veterinary hospitals, damaged in the floods, will be repaired. Sources said Rs. 8 lakh will be spent on each hospital. A sum of Rs. 16.5 crore has also been provided for renovation of 300 common service centres damaged in the floods.  Assistance will also be provided to fishermen who have sustained losses in the floods. As many as 3,500 fishermen will be given assistance of Rs.  1.59 crore for repair of their boats.    The Chief Minister also reviewed the availability cattle feed in the flood- affected villages. So far 6,667 tonnes of cattle feed have been distributed in the flood-hit villages. Besides, Rs.  1 crore has been provided for renovation of Kirtania jetty which was badly damaged in the floods.  Official sources claimed that house- building assistance has been given in seven affected districts. Chief Secretary Bijay Kumar Patnaik, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Pradipta Kumar Mohapatra and senior officials were present.
