'First Time A Politician Became Trendsetter': Rahul Gandhi's Style Is New Fad Among Raebareli Youth

‘Rahul Gandhi Cut and beard-style’ is quickly gaining popularity among the youth of Raebareli, who are now queuing up at the New Mumba Devi Hair Cutting Saloon in Raebareli’s Lalganj town.

In this salon, the Congress MP made a surprise visit to get his hair cut and beard trimmed. His visit sparked a new trend among the youth in Raebareli, with many wanting to emulate his style.

Mithun, the owner of the salon said that Bollywood stars have always influenced the masses but it’s the first time he has seen the hairstyle of any politician becoming a trendsetter.

“Rahul Gandhi’s haircut and beard style is becoming a new style statement among the youths of Raebareli. I am surprised, every second youth approaching me wants to look like Rahul Gandhi and wants to have the same haircut as him.”

Mithun, also known as ‘Mithun Nai’ locally, gave a haircut to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi who visited his shop while canvassing in his constituency on May 13.

A video of his interaction with the shop’s owner, Mithun Kumar, went viral shortly after. During his visit, the former Congress president chatted with Kumar, learning about his life experiences.

In the conversation, Gandhi was also heard jokingly discussing the “fire haircut” trend before Gandhi explained the benefits of Congress’ Mahalaxmi Scheme, under which women from low-income families will be entitled to a yearly payment of Rs 1 lakh in their bank accounts

Mithun said Gandhi’s visit to his shop was magical. “I never thought that his visit could change my life. Earlier only regular customers used to drop in at my salon, but after Rahul Ji’s visit, there were queues of the customers. Initially, somewhat similar queues were seen only on Sundays but now every day is Sunday for me,” Mithun told News18.

But what he says is ‘irritating’ is that almost all his customers want to get the haircut while sitting on the same chair on which Rahul ji had his hair cut.

“Other than the youths, there were many people who also asked for the Rahul ji-style beard. I used two number comb while using Rahul Bhaiya’s beard since he likes keeping a light beard,” added Mithun while extending thanks to the Congress leader for giving a boost to his income.

Initially, Mithun used to earn around 400 to 500 Rs a day, however, now his income has increased. Mithun said such a trend of copying hairstyles was seen after a long time.

“Initially I used to hear from the people and from my guru who taught me the haircutting skills that how Bollywood used to set hairstyling trends among the people,” he said.

Back in the ’60s and ’70s, the Sadhna Cut hairstyle used to be the most famous hairstyle which is even common to this day. Many parents wanted their daughters to have a Sadhna Cut.

Then Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachan’s hairstyle, Rahul Roy’s hairstyle in the movie Junoon and Ashiqui, Amir Khan’s hairstyle in the movie Dil Chahta Hai’ and superstar Salman Khan’s hairstyle in the movie ‘Tere Naam’ became quite popular among the people.

“However it’s for the first time when a politician’s haircut has become a fad among the people,” he added.
