Kolkata: A four-member probe team from fire services department on Monday visited a number of private and government hospitals to review fire-fighting arrangements there to avoid disasters like AMRI.
"The Government is committed to taking stern action against those flouting fire safety norms. NOC for fire safety compliance is mandatory for all as we don't want such disasters to take place again," state's Disaster Management Minister Javed Khan said here today.
The fire department's probe team visited a number of leading private hospitals and nursing homes.
Fire department sources said "safety norms are not adequate in many private as well as government hospitals and some are even running with provisional NOCs".
Khan said he was yet to receive any report from the probe team. "I will be able to highlight the findings only after going through the report", he said.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee discussed the fire safety measures at various establishments in the city with Kolkata Mayor Sovan Chatterjee, Municipal Secretary RN Basu Roy Chowdhury and Police Commissioner RK Pachnanda.
"Measures in government hospitals will also be streamlined but centrally air-conditioned multistoreyed complex should get more attention to prevent disasters", the chief minister said.
