A 35-year-old farmer, who borrowed a sum of Rs 10 lakh from his friend, was reportedly kidnapped at a bus stand in Uppal here on Monday.
The victim, Prabhakar Reddy, is a resident of Mulkanagar in Karimnagar district and the accused, Raji Reddy, is the resident of the same village.
According to police, Prabhakar’s faliure to repay the loan led to his kidnap. Srinivas Reddy, Prabhakar’s friend, had approached the Uppal police alleging that Prabhakar was kidnapped by Raji Reddy. Based on Srinivas’ complaint, police tracked Raji Reddy through his mobile phone at Warangal. With the assistance of Warangal police, both were being brought to Hyderabad.
A few years ago Prabhakar had borrowed `10 lakh cash from Raji was unable to return the same due to crop failure. Raji started pressurising him to return the money, because of which Prabhakar left his village.
On Monday, Prabhakar, along with Srinivas, came to the city on some personal work. They got down from the bus at Uppal cross roads and Raji, who was waiting at a nearby bus stop with his friends, saw him. “Raji Reddy immediately caught Prabhakar and forcibly took him away to an undisclosed location in their vehicle. Based on the complaint, we booked a kidnapping case under section 365,” Uppal inspector K Lakshmikanta Reddy said.
