BANGALORE: Former Manipur minister and state secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) Dr M Nara Singh on Tuesday called upon Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda asking him to expedite the investigation into the death of 19-year-old student Richard Loitam, who was found dead under mysterious circumstances in his hostel room on April 18. Dr Singh, after meeting the chief minister on Monday, told reporters that the latter had assured a quick investigation. “I had an open and honest discussion with the chief minister. Richard was murdered and the chief minister concurred with this. I have asked him to ensure that action is taken against the institution, as there have been efforts to conceal the facts,” Nara Singh said. Dr Singh submitted a memorandum of Dr Loitam Rajeshkumar, Richard’s father, to the chief minister in which Dr Loitam has urged the government to hand over the investigation to a ‘neutral’ authority like Central Bureau of Investigation “in order to clear all doubts and apprehensions.”
