New Delhi: Sridevi’s comeback film ‘English Vinglish’ had a slow start and earned Rs 2.5 crore on Friday. However, the positive reviews from critics and the viewers did wonders for the film. ‘English Vinglish’ earned Rs 13 crore in the first weekend. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh lately tweeted, “English Vinglish started on a slow note on Friday, but the terrific word of mouth helped the business grow over the weekend. English Vinglish *revised figures* Fri 2.5 cr, Sat 4.4 cr, Sun 6.1 cr. Total: 13 cr nett.”
After staying away from the silver screen for 15 years, Sridevi is back with a bang. Though her co-stars Mehdi Nebbou, Priya Anand and Adil Hussain are brilliant in the film, but it’s Sridevi who dominates the entire movie. Dressed in simple sarees, Sridevi will surely take your heart away as Marathi housewife Shashi Godbole.
‘English Vinglish’ has been directed by ad filmmaker Gauri Shinde. Her husband filmmaker R Balki is the co-producer of the movie. Amitabh Bachchan also has a cameo in the movie. Music by Amit Trivedi, supports the plot.
Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal’s ‘OMG Oh My God’ is also doing good business. Released on September 28, 2012, the movie has earned Rs 49.5 crore in two weeks. This week, ‘Aiyyaa’, ‘Bhoot Returns’, ‘Makhi’ and ‘Chittagong’ will hit the screens. Do you think ‘English Vinglish’ can give a tough fight to these films?
