DYFI call to suspend Radhakrishna Pillai

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: DYFI state secretariat has demanded that the government suspend the controversial Assistant Commissioner of Police Radhakrishna Pillai who had opened fire on the agitating students in Kozhikode and also order a judicial probe into the incident.In a statement here, the secretariat said  that the ACP’s action of firing on students without any provocation was unprecedented. They alleged that the police officer said to be having a dubious background was posted with vested interests.It was the political motives behind his posting which had prompted Oommen Chandy to protect him in spite of the fact that he had disgraced the entire police force, the secretariat alleged.The statement pointed out that the Additional Chief Secretary K Jayakumar’s report had made it clear that there there was no situation warranting opening fire on students.In view of these facts, the government should have suspended the ACP and ordered a judicial probe. On the contrary, the government was still protecting him.The secretariat made it clear that it did not consider relieving the ACP from law and order duties as a punitive step.Terming the government stand of protecting the ACP as heinous and unparalleled and a direct challenge to the people, DYFI warned of a strong agitation against the government if it refused to concede its demand.
