Mumtaz Has No Father? Actress Sued Journalist Who Made the Shocking Claim: 'I Was Tolerating For...'
Mumtaz took a journalist to court after the latter claimed the actress does not have a father.

Mumtaz was one of the most popular actresses in the 1960s and 1970s. She worked with the biggest stars, including Rajesh Khanna and Jitendra. While her work spoke for her, a journalist once meddled with her personal life, accusing that she doesn’t have a father. Renowned journalist Devyani Chaubal had once gone on record to claim that Mumtaz doesn’t have a father. The claim left Mumtaz furious and she eventually went to court.

The actress was seen shooting for a song with Rajesh Khanna for Aap Ki Kasam. In between the shots, she sat down for an interview and revealed that she had enough of mudslinging from Devyani and decided to put an end to it by suing her. In the video, which seems like a project done by an international documentary maker, Devyani was seen writing a column on Mumtaz which said, “Of screen, I have never heard of Mumtaz’s background. Her father is never heard of. We’ve constantly heard of Naaz, Mumtaz’s mother, mostly from the elderly men.”

When the documentary maker asked Mumtaz about the piece and if it was true that she was taking Devyani to court. Mumtaz said, “Yeah, I did. I was tolerating from many years and I think it is too much now. So I thought about it. I thought let’s do something, some thrill (laughs).” Asked if the claim hurt her, Mumtaz admitted, “I was very hurt. It is very wrong. Well, they think (it is) their business, they just want to sell their magazines.”

She said she is not frightened that she is taking Devyani to court. “She should be frighten, not me,” Mumtaz said. Watch the video below:

In an interview with IANS in 2012, Mumtaz clarified that her father was around. “Of course. People believed I was fatherless because Devyani Chaubal wrote, ‘Mumtaz does not have a father’. I took her to court. My father, who lived in Hyderabad, promised to come to court to prove her wrong. He said, ‘Hum ayega court mein,'” she said.

However, he did not have to come to court because the magazine Devyani worked for apologised to Mumtaz and her family. “No, the magazine and Devyani apologised publicly. I forgave them. If someone wrongs me and realises it, I am ready to forgive. But I will never tolerate nonsense,” she said.
