Drug retailers to observe day-long strike today
The strike is to protest the reduction in their profit margin by 6 per cent according to the new drug policy.

New Delhi: An association of chemist and drug retailers will go on a day-long strike and shut down medical shops on Friday against the "unjustified" policies of the government.

The strike is a token one-day strike to protest the reduction in profit margin by 6 per cent according to the new drug policy. The chemists argue that they cannot bear the loss in the current economy.

"We have decided to observe a day-long token strike against the unjustified policies of the government. However, medical shops at hospitals and nursing homes will remain open during the bandh so that emergency services are not hit and inconvenience is not caused to the general public," said Sandeep Nangia, president of The Retailers and Distributors Chemist Association (RDCA).

The association have several demands, which include maintenance of trade margins of medicines and not to reduce it in the forth-coming Drugs (Price Control) Order 2013 considering the rising operational costs.
