Drama as constable threatens to kill self

The Union Territory police had anxious moments for about an hour and a half after a head constable posted at the Doordarshan Kendra tower premises at Odiampet threatened to shoot himself.

Police said S Maginot Francis (45) climbed up a building on the premises and fired three shots from his service gun, a Self Loading Rifle, in the air and threatened to kill himself. He also threatened to shoot himself if anyone came near him.

He was reportedly angry with the IGP and Inspector of the Crime Records Bureau who he blamed for his frequent transfers. According to police, Francis, the constable attached to crime records bureau, was transferred to the armed police wing from the Orleanpet police station since his work was reportedly not satisfactory. Francis, who joined the armed police wing on August 1, was posted on security duty at the TV tower along with another constable Elavarasan.
