HYDERABAD: The Opposition Telugu Desam Party has decided to oppose the foreign direct investment in the retail sector. During the debate on FDI in Parliament, the TDP MPs will raise their voice along with other parties and demand the Centre to revoke its decision on FDI in the retail sector.Speaking to reporters here on Saturday, TDP Politburo member K Yerran Naidu said allowing FDI in the retail sector would pose a threat to petty vendors in the country. Lakhs of pushcart vendors would be rendered jobless if FDI was allowed in the retail sector, he said.He found fault with the Congressled UPA Government for taking a unilateral decision on FDI in the retail sector. Even chief ministers of various states were not consulted in this regard. "It is against the federal spirit of the country," Yerran Naidu added. At a separate press conference, TDP senior leader Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy said YSR Congress honorary president YS Vijayamma lacked common knowledge in filing a petition against TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu in the High Court seeking a probe into his wealth. She stated in the petition the previous TDP government failed to participate in bidding for exploration of gas.
