BANGALORE: The High Court on Wednesday ordered the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to maintain status quo till three months in connection with a petition challenging the eviction of slum dwellers of Jai Bhim Nagara behind Mantri Mall at Malleswaram and adjourned the matter to July 27.
Hearing a petition filed by Mohan and others, the residents of Jai Bhim Nagara slum, Justice Abdul Nazeer ordered BBMP to maintain status quo till three months.The petitioners, in their submission said that, the rehabilitation arrangements made at Jalahalli is far from the city and there are no basic facilities, no buses, no temple and hospitals.

"If there is no bus, we will direct the BMTC to run buses to that area. If you need a temple, we will tell BBMP to construct the temple and we also see that a hospital comes up there and there will be 40,000 additional autos in the city soon. So what other problems do you have to shift to Jalahalli? Do you need houses on M G Road?" Justice Abdul Nazeer asked.

It can be recalled here that BBMP and the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) demolished the Jai Bhim Nagara slum and took possession of the land s behind the Mantri Mall on July 12.
