A day after the party's District Secretaries meet castigated the ruling AIADMK for allegedly stalling the Chennai Port Maduravoyal Elevated Expressway project, DMK on Saturday staged a demonstration at Chennai urging the state government to extend full cooperation for it's implementation.
Led by former Deputy Speaker and DMK Deputy General Secretary V P Duraisamy, party functionaries and cadres gathered in the busy Red Hills area on Saturday morning. Raising slogans and waving party flags, the protesters urged the government to immediately implement the project that would spur economic growth. The agitators courted arrest and were later released.
Former Mayor M Subramaniam, South Chennai District Secretary J Anbazhagan, party in-charge for North Chennai and Tiruvallur Districts, RD Sekar and S Sudarsanam respectively participated. Later speaking to reporters, Karunanidhi condemned the arrest of party cadres and said DMK would decide on the future course of action after holding a meeting.
Asked about important decisions taken at the District Secretaries meet on Friday, he said the party had decided to take part in the Lok Sabha polls. He also said he was 'agitated' over the delay in release of Vijay starer "Thalaivaa" in Tamil Nadu.
