THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM veteran V S Achuthanandan, who is in the eye of a storm at the party state conference for his alleged anti-party activities, is unlikely to be meted out any disciplinary action this time, thanks to the central leadership’s support to him.The ongoing discussions on activity report had its focus on VS for his anti-party activities during his tenure as the Chief Minister. However, the central leadership was of the view that VS was being grilled for his past “sins” which had already earned him the punishment of demotion from the politburo.Delegates had trained their guns on him throughout the discussion violating party guidelines that discussions should not be targeted at a personal level.VS has moved the central leadership against this. In spite of such guidelines, a good number of the 42 delegates who spoke on the second day of the conference tried to pierce their lances into VS. P N Vijayan from Idukki called him a “traitor” and “renegade”. Puthankada Vijayan from Thiruvananthapuram wanted VS to be corrected. Prakashan master (Kannur), A Padmakumar (Pathanamthitta) and M Rajan (Idukki) were vociferous in their criticism of VS.Delegates from Ernakulam district also had not been that supportive to the VS as expected. However, K M Gopinath representing Ernakulam district said the charges against VS had already been discussed and action had been initiated against him.
