PUDUCHERRY: Chief Minister N Rangasamy, on Wednesday, sent his reply to the show cause notice served by the Election Commission of India (EC)  with regard to use of beacon light on his car while arriving at the office of Returning Officer(RO) during the filing of nominations on September 26.The show cause notice was issued by RK Srivastava, Secretary, Election Commission of India, and was served to Rangasamy through the District Election Officer (DEO) on October 10.   Rangasamy was asked to explain why no action should be taken against him for the violation of election code in the light of the newspaper photographs and videotape provided to them on a CD. He was given time till 10 am on October 12 to file his reply. The Chief Minister in his reply stated that the charges against him should be dropped as the notice served was incorrect. The CD did not have any evidence of his use of beacon light car on the premises of RO.  The CD showed the left side of the car parked some distance outside the RO’s office with no occupants. On the other hand,  more than 80 per cent of the CD had  Congress men and their actions on the day of filing nominations in the RO’s office.  He questioned the Election Commission what action was being taken for the violations by  the Congressmen . Further, Rangasamy stated that if the EC wanted to proceed further, he should be given a personal hearing before passing orders.
