Chennai: Somdev Devvarman announced his arrival on the Indian tennis scene with a stunning win over Carlos Moya in the Chennai Open on Thursday. Devvarman stunned Moya 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 in the second round of Chennai Open.

Before the start of the, Moya had said that he would brush aside Devvarman's challenge.

"I played more than him on this court and crowd should be with him. So I think I will crush him," Moya said before the match.

Moya was right about the crowd but wrong about the result. On Thursday under the afternoon sun at the Chennai Open watched by a few tennis enthusiasts Devvarman scripted a magical game to down the former world No. 1 in a thrilling three-setter.

"I think that's the key when you go in matches playing great players. There are a lot of times you see people giving the player too much credit before they step on the court. I sent a message to him that I wasn't going to go away. He's going to earn the match," said Devvarman.

But for him the ingredients of success are simple.

"Do what's working and don't get away from your tactics. Don't try to be a superman out here," he said.

"What I have heard from you guys is my serve is a weakness. You hear people saying that all the time. So I had to do that to make sure that you guys don't say that," he added.

Devvarman also spoke about his role model.

"I would like to model myself after (boxer) Flloyd Mayweather. You keep taking, you keep taking. I am not going to fall down," he revealed.

The counter-puncher sure looks to be carrying on his 2008 form. Devevarman is now into the top 200 in the world, something Leander Paes last accomplished.

"What's good about Somdev is he's a hard working guy and he is very good guy. He is very conscious about what he has to do and that's something that shines through. That's why I think that he's got the best chance than anybody out here to move ahead," said Paes.

Beating Moya may not have been easy but with the form he is in at the moment, everyone seems to be dancing to his tunes.
