Bush says Iran still a threat, despite a report saying it's not making N-weapons.

New Delhi: US President George Bush has warned that Iran remains a threat to the world, despite a new US intelligence report, which says the country may not be building nuclear weapons.

The US National Intelligence Estimate published on Monday took many by surprise, when it said that Iran had halted its nuclear program in 2003.

But Bush said the report was a warning signal, and stressed that Iran was still trying to enrich Uranium and could restart its weapons programme.

"I believed before the NIE that Iran was dangerous and I believe after the NIE that Iran is dangerous. And I believe now it is time for the world to do the hard work necessary to convince the Iranians that there is a better way forward," he stated.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said on Wednesday that it would be a ''big mistake'' to ease world pressure on Iran just because a US intelligence report said Tehran stopped its nuclear weapons program in 2003.

Rice, who has spent years battling to get the backing of reluctant world powers such as Russia and China to punish Iran over its nuclear program, said she would continue to push for a third UN Security Council sanctions resolution against Tehran.
