CHENNAI: With reservations for train tickets during Deepavali opening on Saturday, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) has charted out a series of measures to crack the whip on malpractices at the Computerised Passenger Reservation System (CPRS) Centres in Chennai.
As part of it, ticket seekers approaching the counters would be videographed in an attempt to identify touts, who frequent the CPRS."This is the first time that we are going ahead with videographing people waiting in the queue for the Deepavali season," S R Gandhi, Senior Divisional Security Commissioner, Chennai Division, Southern Railway, told Express.

"The new initiative would help us in a big way to curb the practices like repeated visits by touts for buying tickets and jumping of queue," he added.

The city houses eight CPRS centres at various locations, including Moore Market Complex, Egmore, Mambalam, Mylapore, Anna Nagar, Besant Nagar and Chennai Moffusil Bus Terminus at Koyambedu.

According to Gandhi, there had been several complaints from the public regarding the difficulties they face to book tickets.

The Railway Police Force has formed 15 special teams, each comprising seven members, including commercial branch staff from the railways, to monitor the CPRS centres. The teams would regularise the queue as early as 5 am on Saturday.
