D-day for Revanth Reddy, 17 More to Join Probe, New Notices Sent: Latest in Amit Shah Fake Video Case
A doctored video of Amit Shah was circulated, where his statements indicating a commitment to abolish quota for Muslims on religious ground in Telangana were changed to make it seem that he was advocating scrapping of all reservations.

At least 17 more people are likely to join the probe in connection with a deep fake video of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, sources in Delhi police said on Wednesday, adding that Congress’ Jharkhand president and social media in-charge have also been served notice in the case.

The Special Cell of the Delhi Police had on Sunday registered an FIR after the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), which is under the Ministry of Home Affairs, filed a complaint about the doctored video of Shah where his statements indicating a commitment to abolish quota for Muslims on religious ground in Telangana were changed to make it seem that he was advocating scrapping of all reservations.

On Tuesday, Gujarat police arrested a Congress leader and an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) functionary for allegedly sharing the deep fake video.

The Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Cell arrested the two persons, identified as Satish Vansola, a resident of Palanpur in Banaskantha and Rakesh Baria from Limkheda town of Dahod district, the police said in a release.

A preliminary probe revealed that Vansola has been working as the Personal Assistant (PA) of Congress MLA Jignesh Mevani since the last six years, while Baria has been serving as the AAP’s Dahod district president since the last four years, it said.

A team from the Delhi police’s special cell also questioned a Youth Congress leader from Madhya Pradesh’s Chhatarpur district.

District Convenor of Youth Congress IT Cell Umashankar Patel, who was questioned by the Delhi police team, said he had shared an edited version of the video which was posted by someone on social media. While expressing ignorance about the authenticity of the video, he said it was deleted after someone told him it could lead to filing of a case against him.

On Monday, a Congress functionary of Assam was arrested. Reports stated that the arrested Guwahati resident, 31-year-old Reetam Singh, is associated with the Assam Congress and functions as the party’s ‘War Room Coordinator’.

The cops in the national capital had also summoned Telangana chief minister and Congress leader Revanth Reddy, and asked him to appear before the Delhi Police’s Cyber Unit on May 1, with his mobile phone.
