CPM a tower of babel: Report

KOZHIKODE: The CPM central leadership has admitted that there is lack of coordination even at the party centre and politburo which has percolated down the line. General secretary Prakash Karat and PB members Sitaram Yechuri, S Ramachandran Pillai, K Varadharajan and Brinda Karat form the party centre functioning in Delhi.“At times, there is lack of unified understanding within the PB and the party centre. This finds expression in public statements to the media. It has also percolated down,” notes the CPM organisational report.The report will be presented in the party congress by PB member S  Ramachandran Pillai on  Sunday.  The  criticism comes in the section where the report deals with the functioning of various party forums.Two major weaknesses of the party centre have been cited in the report. “The PB members at the party centre are not finding time to discuss the reports submitted by the sub-committees and fraction committees. The second weakness is that the party centre is not discussing collectively the work done by all- India mass organisation centres and place the reports before the CC,’’ it said.The report confesses that in the last four years, the party centre had only reviewed the performance on All-India Kisan Sabha and CITU. All other feeder organisations, including SFI and DYFI, were  ignored by the centre.The report also criticises the PB members for not having a proper understanding of the issues and problems of various states and movements.The report cautions about the growth of federal tendencies in the party. “Except for some issues regarding the functioning of the state govt which were brought to it, the PB has been unable to have a comprehensive review of the work of the state govt. This also reflects a federal tendency,’’ it says.
