In a startling incident at New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, a couple’s ambitious plan to immigrate to Canada took a dramatic turn, resulting in their arrest by airport authorities. Gurusevak and Archana Kaur, residents of Moti Nagar, Lucknow, allegedly spent a staggering Rs 60 lakh in an attempt to procure Canadian visas through illicit means.
It all started with 22-year-old Archana was resolute in her refusal to reside in Lucknow under any circumstances. While Gurusevak could have tolerated this insistence solely on Lucknow, Archana’s determination extended further— to avoid settling in any village, town, or city in India. Her aspiration was clear and that was to establish a life in Canada, a desire she openly communicated to her husband.
Upon learning of his wife’s longing, Gurusevak too began envisioning a future in Canada. What was once solely Archana’s wish had now become a shared aspiration between them. However, unable to secure legitimate visas, the couple resorted to illegal methods facilitated by Jagjit Singh alias Jaggi from Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh, who charged them an exorbitant amount of Rs 60 lakh in exchange for Canadian visas.
Jaggi provided them with two passports bearing Canadian visas, albeit under false identities. One passport was issued in the name of 67-year-old Harvinder Singh and the other in the name of Harjit Kaur. Gurusevak, however, was only 24 years old, creating a conspicuous age disparity.
To circumvent this obstacle, Gurusevak sought the services of a skilled makeup artist who transformed his appearance to resemble that of a 67-year-old man. Despite the elaborate disguise, their plan unraveled when CISF (Central Industrial Security Force) personnel became suspicious during their airport security check.
Upon close inspection, CISF officials detected discrepancies between Gurusevak’s appearance and the passport details. While they detained Gurusevak for questioning, Archana attempted to flee but was apprehended shortly thereafter.
Following an extensive interrogation by the police, both Gurusevak and Archana were arrested on charges related to passport fraud and attempting to illegally migrate to Canada. The airport authorities expressed astonishment at the audacity of the couple’s plan and the intricate measures employed to deceive airport security.
