CHENNAI: Sounding a bugle for an impending war of words between the Dravidian parties, the DMK-led Chennai Corporation Council on Friday condemned the AIADMK-led government and its Municipal Administration Minister in two special resolutions, for being undemocratic to their voters and the historic civic body.
During its regular monthly meet at Ripon Building, the council passed a special resolution condemning the government for resisting the implementation of the Uniform System of School Education (Samacheer Kalvi), despite being directed by the Madras High Court and Supreme Court to do so.In another strongly worded resolution, it condemned Municipal Administration Minister K P Munusamy for 'insulting' the elected representatives of the civic body (including Mayor M Subramanian) by avoiding them during inspection and review meetings.

Raking up the issue during the Zero Hour, DMK councillor for Ward 77 'Dravidanadu' S Munusamy chided the State government for going all out against Samacheer Kalvi. "Besides jeopardising the future of crores of students in the State, the government is playing with the lives of more than a lakh students studying in Corporationrun schools. Hence, for this mindless act and scant regard for introducing quality education, I strongly condemn the AIADMK government," Munusamy said.

Members of the DMK also spoke about Munusamy 'avoiding' elected representatives during inspections and review meetings.

The Minister had recently held a threehour marathon review meeting with the officials inside the Ripon Building premises, but not a single elected representative, including the mayor, were invited.
