A day after the Monsoon Session washout, both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress are up in arms against each other over the repeated disruption of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.
Putting the blame of the washout on the Narendra Modi government, the Congress on Friday said that the BJP was running a weak and inefficient government, which had no coordination plan in either Lok Sabha or Rajya Sabha to ensure smooth functioning of Parliament.
"The BJP has been exposed in the Monsoon Session. The country has never seen such a hopeless government," said Congress spokesperson Ghulam Nabi Azad.
He added, "BJP does not believe in democracy and this has been proved in this session."
Taking on the government over its march outside Parliament on Thursday, Azad said that the "save democracy march" led by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh was "an evidence that the Congress got the ruling party on the road".
"This is the first time we have seen the government marching on the road and create uproar in the House. We saw not just the BJP MPs but also the ministers stand and disrupt the House," said Azad.
Accusing the BJP of being under the intoxication of power, the Congress alleged that the ruling party did not have the will to accommodate the views and suggestions of any opposition party.
On the issue of GST Bill, on which the government is expected to convene a special Parliament session, the Congress said, "GST is not the only bill for the economic development of this country…one or two bills will not lead to the economic development of this country."
Meanwhile, the ruling party has scheduled a number of press conference on Friday in a bid to "expose" the Congress and tell people how Parliament was not allowed to function.
Addressing the first of such media meets in the national capital, Union ministers Prakash Javadekar and Piyush Goyal hit out at the Congress, asserting that the government will pass the GST bill at any cost.
Hitting back at the government, Congress spokesperson Randip Singh Surjewala said that the Modi government was "drunk with arrogance of power". "The government has decimated democracy in the nation," he added.
Sources had earlier told CNN-IBN that a special session of Parliament might be called to pass the GST Bill. According to sources, the Narendra Modi government is likely to call a special session of Parliament from August 31 to September 4.
The decision to reconvene Monsoon session, after the washout of last three weeks due to disruptions by Congress-led opposition, will depend on whether there is some significant headway with other parties on the contentious GST bill.
On Thursday, both the Congress and the BJP had indulged in sharp attacks on each other over the washout of the Monsoon Session. While Prime Minister Narendra Modi had equated Congress attitude with that during emergency, Rahul Gandhi had hit back, saying, "Mujhe lagta tha Modi mein dum hai, par ab lagta hai Nahi hai."
