BANGALORE: State Congress leaders on Saturday staged a dharna in front of the Vidhana Soudha demanding a special session of the State Legislature to discuss the Lokayukta report on illegal mining and V Balasubramanian’s report on encroachment of government lands.After holding a legislature party meeting which passed a one-line resolution to demand Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda to convene the session, party leaders led by Leader of Opposition in Assembly Siddaramaiah and KPCC president Dr G Parameshwar sat on a dharna for over three hours.Speaking to reporters Siddaramaiah said that the party would launch a statewide protest if the session was not convened immediately.He also questioned the CM’s silence on the Lokayukta report while urging him to make public his stand on the issue.“We want the government to initiate action against those named in the Lokayukta report,” Siddaramaiah demanded while urging the government to hand over the issue to CBI.Later, the leaders met Governor H R Bharadwaj and requested him to direct the CM to convene the special session considering the seriousness of the subjects.They also called on Lokayukta Justice Shivraj Patil with a request to take action against those named in the illegal mining report including former chief ministers B S Yeddyurappa and H D Kumaraswamy.
