New Delhi: Rising prices are having a political impact. Both Congress and Left are going to hold separate meetings to discuss on the issue.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi will be meeting party general secretaries on Tuesday to discuss the matter.

General Secretaries are expected to give her feedback of the price situation in the states under their charge.

Sonia will also be meeting Chief Ministers of Congress-ruled states on July 5 and is likely to discuss ways of bringing prices down.

These meetings come a few days after that of the Congress Working Committee, where some members strongly attacked the government on this issue.

The Working Committee meet saw members raise the issue of farmers' suicides as well as the question of wheat import.

Leaders of the Left Front will also meet on Tuesday, to discuss various issues that they have been protesting against.

High on the agenda is the question of rising prices as well as the divestment of public sector enterprises NALCO and Neyveli Lignite.

The CPI-M, CPI, RSP and Forward Bloc have accused the Congress-led UPA of deviating from the National Common Minimum Programme in several areas and say the government hasn't done enough to contain the spurt in prices of essential items.

Left leaders have criticised the government's move to import foodgrains, especially wheat, saying this would weaken the public distribution system.

They allege that by the government's decision to allow private traders to procure foodgrains is leading to hoarding and blackmarketing, resulting in high prices.
