The CNBC-TV18 India business leader awards were handed over on Friday at a glittering function in Mumbai.

New Delhi: The CNBC-TV18 India business leader awards were handed over on Friday at a glittering function in Mumbai on a day the business news channel completed 8 years of operations.

The Union commerce minister Kamal Nath graced the occasion with his presence. Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani was voted the outstanding business leader of the year.

"Reliance today has over 100,000 people. The average age of people working in the company is 30 years. These young people are led by a very talented leadership and it is these people who have made reliance what it is today," says Mukesh Ambani.

The award for an outstanding company was given to the telecom major Bharti Airtel. Shikha Sharma, the CEO of ICICI Prudential life won the award for outstanding woman business leader of the year. Pepsi chairperson, Indira Nooyi won the Indian global achiever award.

Ratan Tata, the chairman of the Tata group, was recognised for his contribution in taking India abroad.

PRS Oberoi, the chairman of East India hotels, won the lifetime achievement award.

Bollywood king, Shah Rukh Khan was the entertainment business leader of the year.

The late Aditya Birla was inducted into the CNBC-TV18 hall of fame.
