PUDUCHERRY: Former MLA and DMK youth wing convener R Siva, on Monday, urged the government to remove ‘black sheep’ in the law and order wing of the Puducherry Police and replace them with honest personnel. Addressing a press conference here, Siva said incidents of persons demanding ‘mamool’, chain-snatching, motor-cycle thefts and burglaries had been on the rise since the AINRC government took over.Pointing to the attack on a spare-parts shop owner here on Friday, he said that it was the latest in a series of violent incidents and demanded that the government appoint sincere police personnel to deal with these elements. He charged that the police refused to register complaints when approached by the public and added that only five per cent of complaints filed were registered.Siva alleged that the First Information Report (FIR) was not made in some of the cases and wondered how the police could entrust recovered property to the original owner in the absence of it.The DMK youth wing leader also said that women were now afraid to walk on the streets. Blaming the AINRC government for failing to maintain law and order, he said DMK youth would agitate against the government’s inaction. Siva warned that if the police failed to take action, then the ‘public’ would come forward to deal with the issue.
