HYDERABAD: How many times have you felt ‘cheated’ when you come across a government or police vehicle nonchalantly parked in a no-parking zone? While a common man would have been fined for a similar thing, the government vehicle would be let off when the driver says, “bade saab ki gaadi hai.” But now alert citizens have given the higher officials a taste of their own medicine by sending innumerable complaints through Facebook, phone calls and e-mails regarding the double standards of the traffic police in dealing with government vehicles. What more, many people have also provided photographic evidence of government vehicles flouting traffic rules in the Facebook page launched by the traffic wing.Taking cognizance of the complaints pouring in, additional commissioner of police (traffic) CV Anand has issued an “internal note” asking all his colleagues in the IPS to give instructions to their drivers to strictly follow all traffic rules. The city traffic police has also decided to launch a special drive against erring government and police vehicles.“The Facebook facility is receiving photographs and videos of government vehicles which are violating the Motor Vehicle Act and Rules. If the date, time, location and the violation committed are clearly seen, an e-challan would be issued against such vehicles,” C V Anand said.Police, on the other hand, would start penalising the police vehicles violating rules in the city limits from August 11. “The special drive against all other government departments would start from August 16,” Anand added.
