In an alarming incident highlighting ongoing security concerns on Railways, a Greater Chennai Police head constable has been arrested for allegedly molesting a medical student at Saidapet railway station in Tamil Nadu. The head constable, identified as Kamal Kannan, was reportedly involved in the incident on August 25 at approximately 9 pm. Kannan, who was allegedly intoxicated, approached the student, who was waiting for a train.
According to reports, he began speaking to her before molesting her. The student’s screams attracted the attention of other passengers, who intervened and handed Kannan over to the Railway Protection Force (RPF).
The RPF conducted an initial investigation before transferring Kannan to the Government Railway Police (GRP) who then seized the accused’s mobile phone. Despite being instructed to report for further questioning, Kannan failed to appear at the GRP station and has since gone missing. A search is currently underway, and a special team has been formed to locate him. Efforts to find him at his residence were unsuccessful.
Following the allegations, the Chennai Police have suspended Kannan from his duties. This case has further intensified scrutiny of railway security across the area.
