Inspired by the adage ‘happiness benefits the giver as well as the recipient’, were some of the corporates in Chennai, uniting on Tuesday for the fourth edition of the Joy of Giving Week festival, which will be celebrated from October 2-8.
Speaking on the occasion, Padma Bhushan awardee N Vaghul, one of the ambassadors of the event said, “We have a long-standing tradition of giving. The realisation that the government alone cannot play a role in betterment has dawned.” Elucidating on the factors that made the previous editions of the event a success, he said that the nation’s youth was its driving factor. “This is an illustration of what that nation would transform into,” he added.
On the involvement of corporate companies in the event, he said that this wasn’t about raising funds for non-governmental organisations. “The aim is about spreading awareness on the benefits of giving, the happiness it generates and the feeling of compassion that it fosters.”
Vaghul added that the event will move to other cities such as Tiruchy and Madurai and eventually villages.
The Joy of Giving Week, an annual affair since 2009, brings people from all walks to life to celebrate giving.
