Puri (Orissa): Acclaimed sand artist Sudarshan Pattnaik on Wednesday created a sand image of child runner Budhia Singh, who recently entered the record books for running a distance of 65 km in seven hours, to mark the International Children's Day on (June 1) Thursday.
"I chose Budhia for the occasion as he has already become an icon," Pattnaik said after creating the sculpture at the sea beach here taking him five hours attracting curious tourists.
Interestingly, a message on the art read 'play with children, no politics'. Pattnaik, who was in Vancouver in Canada last month for a world sand art competition, said he was surprised when a cab driver inquired about Budhia's exploits as a child runner when he came to know that he was from India.
"It was then that I decided to honour Budhia through sand art," the artist, who created a 32-foot soccer boot on the beach ahead of the World Cup in Germany, recently, said.
Pattnaik said he would send a photograph of the sculpture to President APJ Abdul Kalam who is known for his love for children.
