BSF Deputy Inspector General, allegedly involved in the Jammu and Kashmir sex racket, surrendered to the CBI.

Srinagar:Faced with a non-bailable warrant and the rejection of his bail plea, BSF Deputy Inspector General K S Padhi, allegedly involved in the Jammu and Kashmir sex racket, on Wednesday surrendered to the CBI and was remanded to its custody for four days.

Padhi approached the CBI camp office in Srinagar and surrendered. He was placed under arrest and presented at 1600 hrs IST before Chief Judicial Magistrate M Y Akhoon, Chief Prosecuting Officer Bashir Ahmad said.

Akhoon, who had issued non-bailable warrants on Monday for Padhi and former additional advocate general Anil Sethi for their alleged involvement in the scandal, remanded the BSF officer to CBI custody for four days.

The warrants for Padhi and Sethi were issued after they did not present themselves to the CBI for identification parades before a teenaged victim of the racket who had named 11 people for allegedly raping her.

Padhi appeared before the Jammu and Kashmir High Court, on Tuesday, which directed him to surrender to Akhoon or the CBI.

CBI sources said Padhi would be questioned over the next four days about his alleged involvement in the racket.

He would be put in an identification parade before the teenaged victim only after he was remanded to judicial custody, they said. Efforts are also on to arrest Sethi, the sources said.

Eight people, including Sabeena, the alleged kingpin of the racket, have been arrested in connection with the scandal that triggered widespread protests in the state in May.
