British Prime Minister Gordon Brown flew into Beijing on Friday.

New Delhi: British Prime Minister Gordon Brown flew into Beijing on Friday on his first visit to China.

While trade and finance will form the high points of his visit, there are plans for developing an eco-city in Shanghai. Human rights groups are demanding he press Chinese leaders to do more on human rights.

The two countries do not see eye to eye on Iran, Myanmar and the conflict in Darfur. Brown will also be briefed on Beijing's preparations for the Olympics in August.

''This is a very substantial fund. It can invest positively. I realize that in some countries it is controversial, but I have talked to Premier Wen (about that),'' Brown said at a news conference after meeting with Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao.

China has $1.5 trillion in foreign exchange reserves and has set up a $200 billion sovereign wealth fund to invest some of the money.

Brown said he asked Wen to consider London for the first overseas office for the fund. He said British markets offered significant advantages to international investors ''who respect the rules of our markets, including market transparency.''

Wen said $60 billion to $70 billion of the fund could be invested overseas.
