THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The collection of books at the Travancore Devaswom Board is more precious than the treasure at the Sree Padmanabha Swamy Temple, said renowned poet O N V Kurup. He was speaking at the inauguration of the renovated Sree Chithra Central Hindumatha Library. ‘’Books form the core of Indian culture, which would outlive any kind of attack,’’ ONV added. The Sree Chithra Libarary was inaugurated in the year 1936 after the Temple Entry Proclamation. The library has been renovated and new books worth ` 10 lakh have been added to the collection so as to raise it to a research and reference library, informed Devaswom Board president M Rajagopalan Nair.A ‘Thayambaka’ performance by the Ksethra Kalapeedom students and a Kathakali Performance by Margi added pomp and colour to the inaugural function. O N V Kurup and Vasudevan Potti were honoured by the Board at the ‘Prathibha Pranamam’ programme. The renovated library has a vast collection of books on Indian culture, temple arts, vedas, upanishads, religion, history, spirituality and several holy books in Malayalam, Tamil, English and Sanskrit. Those who would like to take membership in the library, should contact the librarian informed the Travancore Devaswom Board.
