Hmm...and just the other day at a book shop a long-lost (an over the seven seas kind of long-lost) friend couldn't stop laughing at me for picking up books because of their glossy covers. C'mon though, that's the whole point of slick design, don't you think? I've discovered so many brilliant books (granted, if I'd been more clued in I might have actually heard of the authors first!)just because the glitz caught my eye. Like the jazzy Artemis Fowl covers, what a treat! And Ali Smith's Accidental...And I picked up Dante's Hell for 100 bucks because of the breathtaking cover! So a good deal and aesthetics into the bargain. And the books are fun too...so who's to judge?
So while it's all very well to be bleeding-heart and sympathetic when it comes to people (of course you shouldn't judge them by their covers, I mean hello!!) with books, it can't hurt...Though then you'd miss out on the fun of second-hand book bargains, flea markets and all the rest of the rundown treasure troves. Tragic.
But speaking of judging people, I'm having a near-nervous breakdown because of my b***dy left eye. Said eye having ruptured a vessel or something (attention problem, I say) but now that it's all vampire-esque everyone's fixating on it. Can't they just make eye contact with the ok one? All this negative energy is just swirling around, and just because I'm one of the few (!) people not to have a cool pirate-y eye patch. So maybe you really shouldn't judge people by their appearances...You could be doing untold biological damage, for all you know!
On that note have a great weekend (from me and the bloodshot eye!)I hesitate before adding that winky ;) because it's just bound to make him/her/it even more depressed. Unless someone wants to get me that eye patch... Sigh..It really is a hard life! Karan Thapar's book was released yesterday...He said some interesting, not quite self-effacing things, but one of the things that struck me was when he said that one shouldn't judge a book by its cover. He emphasised this particularly because he says people tend to judge him by his TV persona though he's actually got a "softer" side, and is idosyncratic and eccentric!
